FREDERICK HISTORIC PIANO COLLECTION

Blüthner, 1907, Leipzig

Blüthner, 1907, Leipzig. This is one of only two 20th century pianos in the Collection. Debussy had a Blüthner grand piano which he acquired in 1905. It is typical of German piano making of the time, with a very sweet, clear, even tone throughout its range. It can produce an almost inaudible pianississimo, somewhat startling in a half-ton, nine-foot instrument with a massive cast-iron plate.
