Gustavo Carpinteyro-Lara

Gustavo
Carpinteyro-Lara was born in Puebla, Mexico, and began his musical
studies with his father at the Conservatorio de Musica del Estado de
Puebla. During his postgraduate studies in London at the London College
of Music he had the opportunity to study with Richard Markson and
participated in a masterclass with Maud M. Tortelier. In the United
States, he received his Bachelor of Music Performance at The University
of Southern Mississippi in 2001, Master of Music in Performance from
The Bowling Green State University in 2003, and his Doctor of Musical
Arts at the University of Cincinnati, College Conservatory of Music, in
2014.
His principal teachers include Lee Fiser, Alan Smith, and Paul York. In
addition he has participated in master classes with El Cuarteto
Latinoamericano, Yehuda Hanani, Joan Dickson, Stefan Popov, and
Wolfgang Laufer.
He has performed solo and chamber music recitals in Mexico, London,
Glasgow, Hattiesburg, Bowling Green, and Cincinnati. He has been
principal cellist of several orchestras, including the Middletown
Symphony Orchestra, Butler Philharmonic, (former Hamilton-Fairfield
Symphony Orchestra), and Lima Symphony Orchestra. He also has performed
with several orchestras around the world, such as Orquesta Sinfonica
Carlos Chavez, Orquesta de Camara de San Angel, Gulfcoast Symphony
Orchestra, Meridian Symphony Orchestra, Clermont Philharmonic Orchestra
and Springfield Symphony Orchestra.
He has extensive cello teaching experience from beginners to college
level and has taught privately and at such places as The University of
Southern Mississippi Community Arts School, The Summer Music Institute
at The Bowling Green State University (BGSU), the BGSU Creative Arts
Program, Ohio Northern University, and the Northern Kentucky School of
Music.
Gustavo Carpinteyro-Lara's 'cello is from the atelier of Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy, Mirecourt, France, c. 1905, and his bow was made by archetier Nicolas Delaune, Lyon, France, c. 1999.
